Designed to fit in place of the 110 3 door hardtop or cab, the all new SKAMP… greatly increases the load area volume, extending the scope for which the vehicle can be used. Its rigid, lightweight GRP construction means it is as durable as the original Defender and provides unrivalled performance and innovation, whether its intended use is work, leisure or both. Be it local work station or global exploration, SKAMP… is the obvious choice. Available as CKD kits right through to fully fitted to vehicle with bespoke internal/external fit-out.
Prototype
Our prototype is now in the final stages of assembly and finishing, meaning we will soon have something to show off. It is important that we spend some time testing the product in the real world and we intend to get to out some events this year to promote this great new product. If you are intersted and wish to stay posted on SKAMP's progress or have any questions then please contact us using the form below.
Material specification
The main body of SKAMP is constructed from glass reinforced plastic (GRP) with stiffening integral within the moulding’s shape. Additional GRP with formed foam stiffening give the mouldings rigidity once assembled and bolted to the vehicle.
Resins used are marine grade orthophthalic polyester. Glass reinforcements consist of chopped strand, bi-axial and uni-directional E-glass applied in various weights and combinations depending on position and forces being applied. Foam core and core matt are used to add stiffness and reduce weight.
The smooth outer skin is an isophthalic polyester Gel coat and is available in most BS4800 and RAL colours. Should there be a requirement for colour coding to a vehicle ie metallic paints etc, the GRP mouldings can be painted and is a service we can offer.
All fixings supplied/used will be of A4 grade stainless steel.
All other materials will be of a marine grade to ensure durability.
Dissimilar metals will be mechanically isolated where possible or coated with an anti-corrosion paste.
Only the highest quality working practices will be employed through-out production and assembly in line with recognised marine based construction techniques.
Innovation
SKAMP has many innovative design features including:
· Side panel recesses – the recesses in the SKAMP body moulding allow for the fitment of hinged or removable side panels which allow access to side recessed storage; additional protection and security of side windows or; the ability to easily add and remove promotional branding to the vehicle as and when required.
·Angled roof design – SKAMP’s angled roof design allows for standing height through the centre of the vehicle whilst keeping the exterior extremities away from the harm of protruding objects whilst out on the trail. This also helps to keep the vehicles centre of gravity lower, aiding vehicle stability.
· Original fixing positions – Utilising the vehicle’s original fixing points allows the new SKAMP moulding to be fitted quickly without the need to drill holes into the bodywork. This also makes DIY fitment and removal possible when considering a self-build or transferring to another vehicle.
· 5 part structure – The main body moulding is in 5 parts; Front over-cab moulding, O/S panel, N/S panel, rear panel and roof. Internal bolting flanges allow for easy fitment and create additional stiffness. This also makes replacing damaged panels a possibility.
· Lifting Points – The side panels incorporate threaded inserts for the attachment of lifting eyes. This not only aids the initial assembly of the component parts but also allows for the fitment or removal of the rear body as a whole.
· Windscreen overhang – as well as increasing the internal length of the vehicle, the overhang above the windscreen helps to prevent the suns glare without obscuring visibility.
· Multi-purpose – SKAMP has been carefully designed to accommodate multiple sectors without compromise. This could include emergency services, search and rescue, mobile work stations, exploration, site offices and camper conversions (including self-build). SKAMP serves to further enhance the incredible capabilities of the base vehicle.
